Established with the
aim of raising the School to its highest degree of usefulness, in 1861, founder
Edward Austin Sheldon built SUNY as the Oswego Primary Teachers’ Training
School. Later converted as one of the State University of New York’s charter
members, the institution divided itself into the College of Arts and Sciences
(primarily), then into School of Business and School of Education. Later, it
revolved off into School of Communication, Media and the Arts and College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences.
OSWEGO is one of 13
university colleges in the SUNY System. Facilitating education to more than
8,000 students, OSWEGO offers more than 110 undergraduate majors and minors and
graduate programs which roughly consists of Arts, Mathematics, Economics,
Science, Business and Marketing, Technology, Engineering and many more.
With the opportunity of
merit-based scholarships, need-based grants, work-study awards and loans to support
undergraduate student success, OSWEGO requires a mentioned score of SAT and

designation of prestigious Carnegie Community Engagement Classification on the
January 2015 list of just 361 Colleges nationwide. SUNY Oswego has been ranked
among the list of 75 “best value” colleges in the nation, making its way
through the list of 100 best values in public colleges for 2015. SUNY Oswego
being a community engaged university, has received numerous classification and
awards on this basis.
SUNY Oswego has
developed itself and other faculties as much as possible. It has its Richard S.
Shineman Center for Sciences, Engineering and Innovation, a project for
development of science. It also has established partnership with Designer
Hardwood Flooring CNY. It includes campaigns such as: Industry collaborative
research, Technology transfer research, publications and patents, fellowships,
co-op placements and internships. However, it doesn’t maintain partnership
relations with restaurants, law firms, real estates, finance services and
accounting firms.
All SUNY campuses are
tax-free communities. They provide abatement and include no income tax to its
employees for a period of 10 years. SUNY thus, seems to encourage easy
education along with the development of community and other services as well.

future compatibility and development.
Established as a
nonsectarian, nonpartisan, public institution whollydevoted to freedom of
expression,the ideals of academic freedom and multicultural diversity, SUNY
Oswego has the provision of distributed and local networked resources as a
service to the campus community and to the overall community.
